We all survived the Snowpocolypse 2014. The horses are doing fine. We have some retired horses in their mid 30's that we were very concerned about the bitter cold weather. They are doing fine. They are in pretty good health even at their ancient age.
The carriage horses are doing well and are awaiting their jobs in the spring. We do have some rides during the winter but it usually slows down. Although winter rides have been fun. It isn't to bad when in milder temperatures with snow drifting down slowly. It can actually be quite magical.
One of our most favorite winter carriage ride took place about three years ago. A young man wanted to take his girlfriend for a ride around Peterson Park in Mattoon, Il so he could propose to her just before Christmas. The park is fully decorated with Christmas lights and people come from far and wide to see it. In a carriage it is fantastic. With snow falling it is absolutely magical. The young man had my husband pull over so that he could propose to his young lady. Needless to say, she said yes and they were married the next year. Even in the cold winter, love is still in the air.
